The district of Ciutat Vella is one of the ten districts into which the city of Barcelona is administratively divided. It is the number 1 district of the city and comprises its entire historic center. It has an area of 4.37 km² and a population of 104,507 inhabitants (INE, 2010). It is the third most densely populated district in the municipality, with 24,583 inhabitants per square kilometre. Ciutat Vella is made up of four neighbourhoods, each with its own uniqueness. In the south we find Barceloneta; in the west, the Raval; in the centre, the Gothic Quarter; and in the east, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera. Ciutat Vella is a district that offers it all: culture, heritage, history, neighbourhood and entertainment.
